Markedslabben solves wind farm layout challenge using FICO Optimization
WindFarmDesigns (Markedslabben AS) was awarded the FICO Decisions Award for Analytic Excellence. Using the FICO® Xpress Optimization Suite, we developed a wind farm layout optimization algorithm that — uniquely — integrates turbine load constraints directly into the optimization problem, rather than checking and adjusting layouts manually afterwards. The result is a 2–5% improvement in energy yield and a corresponding gain in project profitability. Applied across the ~50 GW of new wind capacity added globally each year, that improvement would cut CO₂ emissions by an estimated 2–5 million metric tons annually where wind replaces coal.
