8. Economic optimization
The Layout optimization produces the energy_curve.csv file, denoted E(n) in the GUI, for project sizes n = 1,…,N, and enables Economic Optimization. For each layout with n turbines there is a corresponding energy yield E(n). ParkOptimizer can optimize a range of project sizes, and the energy output forms the energy curve E(n) displayed when pressing the Energy Yield E(n) button.
The Net Present Value formula is stated on the right-hand side of the GUI, with all variables defined on the left. Positioning the mouse over a variable shows its definition. Variables that are functions of time t or number of turbines n are editable. In the example, the Net Present Value is maximized at about n = 40 turbines, corresponding to layout file layout040.txt/ows stored in Results_Directory\OPT_OUT (or ...\wake_effect_adjusted).
Monetary units: by default EUR and MEUR (Million Euro), but the monetary unit can be set to any unit as long as consistency is maintained. Pay attention to the input units (EUR/MWh, MEUR/MW, etc.).
